Our Habitable Earth

Evidence

Let’s start here …

Our Habitable Earth.

We’re going to spend a few posts on our planet earth. It looks remarkably well designed and purposely habitable. Secular scientists claim it all originated by chance and chaos. What do you think?

To begin with, consider where we are located in relation to the sun. We are about 93 million miles away, but if we were a million miles closer, we would overheat, and if we were just a little further away, we would freeze up.

Our orbit around the sun is nice and circular which gives us a stable climate. If the orbit changed, life on earth would come to an end.

Earth rotates every 24 hrs. Any slower, we would have temperature extremes. Any faster, we would experience violent winds.

Our earth rotates on an axis of 23 ½ degrees, which gives us moderate seasons. Just the right axis!

The total density and pressure of our atmosphere is ideal to nurture us. A thicker atmosphere would produce a massive greenhouse effect, and eventually any organism that needs to breath air would die. Earth's size lets it hold onto our precious atmosphere.

This is just for starters, but so far, we have a planet with the ideal distance from the sun, ideal orbit, axis, rotation and atmosphere.

Next week we will point out more “cosmic coincidences” of our amazing planet!

Reason

What do you think?

The not-so unique earth.

Not everyone thinks that our planet is something special. Secular science believes there are many other earths out there, and that there is a high likelihood of life on them. Only problem is that in spite of 50 years of searching, we still haven’t found anything.

Gregory Laughlin, an astrophysicist says: “Certainly there will be other planets that support life," he said. "I think life is actually quite common. I think we're going to find there are literally billions of them in the galaxy." “ I think” is not evidence, and true science works with observable evidence.

Scientists have discovered nearly 5,000 exoplanets (a planet that orbits a star outside of the solar system) to date, and while they can know only very limited information about each of these worlds, nothing matches Earth's unique set of characteristics.

Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy said: “Far out in the uncharted backwaters of the unfashionable end of the western spiral arm of the Galaxy lies a small unregarded yellow sun. Orbiting this at a distance of roughly ninety-two million miles is an utterly insignificant little blue green planet whose ape-descended life forms are so amazingly primitive that they still think digital watches are a pretty neat idea.”

Faith

Something else to consider ...

“I Believe Science” or…

There is not now, nor will there ever will be (in this life) conclusive proof for God’s existence. God didn’t intend for it to be. Instead He wants us to get to know Him, and believe in Him, by faith. Hebrews 11:6 says “But without faith it is impossible to please Him: for he that cometh to God must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of him that diligently seeks Him.”

Those who cling to materialism, or atheism can always find reasons not to believe. Secular science looks at design and purpose and suggest that it has the “appearance” of design. But all the time hold to the belief that chaos and chance made it all happen.

What does science say?

Keep in mind that “science” doesn’t “say” anything. Only scientists do. And they all have their own worldviews that they filter their observations of the evidence through. Also, keep in mind that in today’s culture, evolution is “state science religion” in America. If anyone steps outside that line, they won’t get research grants, government positions, doctorates or teaching jobs. Knowing that, what would you expect them to say about the appearance of supernatural design of our universe, and planet earth?

When we look with open minds at the overwhelming evidence of design and fine tuning of the unique planet earth, it sure looks like it was created to be inhabited for us doesn’t it??

That is because God designed it that way. Isaiah 45:18 says: “ For thus saith the LORD that created the heavens; God himself that formed the earth and made it; he hath established it, he created it not in vain, he formed it to be inhabited: I am the LORD; and there is none else.

What then should our proper attitude be? Ps 90:2 has a suggestion. “Before the mountains were brought forth, or ever thou hadst formed the earth and the world, even from everlasting to everlasting, thou art God.”
